Mexcaltitán, known as the “Mexican Venice,” is a small island in Nayarit full of history and charm. It is one of the 9 Magical Towns of the state.
It is believed to have been the starting point of the Mexica pilgrimage towards the foundation of Tenochtitlán, making it a site of great cultural value. Its streets turn into canals during the rainy season, creating a unique landscape.
How to get there?
From Tepic, the capital of Nayarit, take the road to Santiago Ixcuintla (approximately 1 hour). From there, head to the La Batanga pier, where boats will take you to the island of Mexcaltitán in a 15-minute ride.
