Nayarit: home of marine mammals and migratory birds
Due to its climatic condition and the characteristics of its ecosystems, the state of Nayarit is a favorable place for marine mammals, such as the humpback whale, and migratory birds from North America
Among the benefits that characterize the state of Nayarit are those related to eco-tourism and adventure tourism, where the natural settings of this jewel of the Mexican Pacific are protagonists and a national and international meeting point.
Due to its climatic condition and the characteristics of its ecosystems, the state of Nayarit is a favorable place for marine mammals, such as the humpback whale, and migratory birds from North America, to arrive at this paradisiacal place in key seasons that allow their mating and preservation.
And, year after year, avian species such as the American Avocet, the Cardenalito Flycatcher or the Black Pelican, reach the bordering points of the Marismas Nacionales Biosphere Reserve (located in the municipalities of Tecuala, Rosamorada, Tuxpan, Santiago Ixcuintla and, mostly, San Blas), to adjust their physical conditions to the weather conditions that, in the winter season, are more friendly to these species.
According to the latest census carried out by researchers from the Autonomous University of Nayarit, there are nearly 600 specimens of different species that have been arriving, year after year, in the Nayarit territory. The same research continues to work so that, in the medium term, the birds find a permanent home in this scenario.
The majestic humpback whales are also temporary residents of the Nayarit coast, because year after year, during the months from December to March, numerous specimens migrate to the warm waters of Banderas Bay, to mate and give birth. light to new members of the species.
The spectacle in both scenarios is surprising, and annually brings together specialists and new fans around natural tourism and respect for the environment. In both cases, visitors who show interest in being part of these sightings can approach certified agencies that provide, in a safe and friendly manner, tours to get to know the benefits of nature up close.
